The Lookout at Ortega Highway

Since May of this year, I've been travelling the dizzy Ortega highway that connects Riverside to Orange County. In one of the early morning travel, I encounter a foggy road in Lake Elsinore. As I enter highway 74, I ascended above the clouds and as I travel around 45 mph with cars behind me, I told myself "I have to stop even if traffic behind me starts to build up." Why, because the image on my right is the closest thing to heaven. Above the clouds with the sunset on my face the silhouette mountains in front and behind me became a perfect panoramic shot. I parked at the famous viewpoint at Lake Elsinore, The Lookout, and beneath me is the lake of clouds instead of Lake Elsinore.

You don't see this view everyday and despite the possibility of being late, I took my time to stop, get my camera into focus and took 4 shots from left to right. I meditated and thanked God for a wonderful view that 6:30 in the morning. I went inside my car and to my surprise there was no traffic and the lanes were clear which doesn't happen usually, I got back on the road to Orange County feeling great and with hope that the shots I took will be worth the stop.

The shots were uploaded to Adobe Lightroom and edited with Merge to Panorama in Photoshop. The result, a breathtaking view of Lake Elsinore from the Lookout covered with clouds with the early morning sunrise.

The lookout was worth the stop.

We created a vector car graphic based on a Bugatti model and gave it that shiny look. Overall, the logo looks good with light or dark background.

The graphic below is the label that Niche Grafix designed for Eco Auto. The design bleeds through the label and wraps around the white bottle. Eco has two other lines of products: Eco Motorcycle Detailer and Eco Boat Detailer.

After sometime, Niche Grafix will be blogging again but with a new look, new topics and more graphics to showcase and more interesting photographs to post. ’ Concert King, Martin Nievera and Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano will have a repeat concert in Los Angeles, California. The two performed last October 17, 2009 in Los Angeles and it was a sold out concert. Due to insistent public demand, Martin and Gary will once again take the stage for As 1 – The Repeat this March 21^st, 2010 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Sunday at 5:00PM. The venue is located at 300 E. Green St. Pasadena, CA 91101.

Last year, the two performed their greatest hits from the past and present accompanied by a live band headed by Mon Faustino and Louie Ocampo. Gary V. is known for his song and dance abilities which Martin tried to duplicate during the concert. Martin performed his best ballads and funny antics that made him the Concert King.

Pasadena, CA - Two of the most respected singer in Philippine Music industry, Concert King - Martin Nievera and Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano performed together as one at the Pasadena Civic Center in front of a sold-out crowd, Saturday night, October 17, 2009. The As 1 concert is the much anticipated concert event of the year in Los Angeles. Gary and Martin brought the house down singing their popular hits all the way to singing songs they interpreted for TV Telenovelas. It was more than a concert but a great and fantastic show as they brought the house down in the very beginning of their concert.

The combination of talent and the chemistry of Gary and Martin really helped in the success of the show. The two even performed a tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Another highlight of show is the presence of Martin's father, Bert Nievera, who travelled all the way from Las Vegas. Incidentally, it was also Bert's birthday and Gary and Martin wished him a Happy Birthday by bringing out a cake for Bert. Gary and Martin took turns in performing singing their songs. Gary's everlasting Christmas song, "Pasko Na Sinta Ko" was appreciated by the fans since Christmas is just around the corner. Martin's classic, "Be My Lady" was the fans most requested of him. They also sang 80's songs from Tears for Fears and Journey. The concert became a fund raising event as they showed clips and collages of the recent typhoon in the Philippines that flooded the capital and displaced thousand of Filipinos leaving their houses underwater. Martin and Gary encouraged the audience to give donations that night that will help the victims get back on their feet. The Unity Tour Press Conference

Torrance, CA - The Unity Tour had a press conference in Maegan's Grill yesterday at 11AM headed by Mr. Henry Chen. Four among seven performing artists were present during the press con headed by the Pop Diva - Kuh Ledesma and daughter Isabella. Nanette Inventor and Jograd dela Tore joined them as they await the arrival of Charlie Green, Christian Bautista and Carlo Orosa later this week. The Unity Tour will be in Long Beach this coming October 24, 2009 at the Long Beach Convention Center. The press con was somewhat different from any other: it focused mainly on Christianity and being God-centered. Kuh Ledesma gathered some of her Christian friends to come up with an inspirational concert for the Filipinos. The concert was also turned into a fund raising event for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng that displaced thousands of Filipinos in Manila and nearby provinces placing their homes underwater. People will see a different kind of concert and a different kind of Kuh.

Our friends from press/media/photographers were there to support the show. The producers encouraged the concert goers to donate clothes, food and cash for the victims during their all 4 shows accross the US and Canada. Kuh and Isabella shared their own painful experience ex-husband and father and how they overcame tradgedies in life and how thankful they are because of the strength God has given them. Nanette Inventor shared with the press the new character she will portray in the show. Nanette was known in the Philippines as Dona Buding but Nanette said that the character may not fit the tour so she created another one. Jograd de la Tore, a well known comedian from the 80's was thankful to Kuh that he was chosen to be included with the group. Though Jograd is not visible on television lately, he continues to perform with bands in the Philippines. Isabella, Kuh's daughter is excited to be with The Unity Tour.

The Press Con was held at Maegan's Grill in the City of Torrance. After the interviews, we were treated to a delicious buffet of Filipino cuisine. Our thanks to Henry Chen for inviting us for this spirit filled and inspirational gathering. Despite the October rains pouring in Los Angeles, there was a good turnout during the presscon. Handog Sa Bayan Fund Raising Event

Hollywood, CA - Creative Concepts headed by Jet and Edith Montelibano gathered artists around California last Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Celebrity Centre. Proceeds from the event will go to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng in the Philippines. The concert started at 4PM with Bernardo Bernardo opening the show. Various celebrities were present and performed during the scheduled 5 hour marathon concert. Filipino audiences come and go as the show progress and the truck parked outside started to fill up with clothes and consumable goods. Xoom.com was there to deliver you cash donations directly with its money transfer service. Items were silently auctioned from Ylang Ylang Floral Design courtesy of Ed Rame. Proceeds from the auction will also be given to the victims. Among the performers were Tateng Katindig, Mon David, Miguel Vera, Louie Reyes, Fe de los Reyes, Michael de Mesa, Florante, Ner de Leon, Pinky de Leon, Daryl Ogalino, The Asian Dolls featuring Patricia Javier, Jessica Casas, Joni Feliciano, Ava Johnson and a lot more. Ms. Kevyn Lettau made a special appearance at the concert singing Sana Maulit Muli and Bridges accompanied by Tateng Katindig on piano. The finale featured the all star cast singing together headed by Jet Montelibano. Congratulation to Jet and Edith for a successful fund raising event. I hope the next time we this kind of a show, it's for the celebration of life instead of a tragedy. Thank you to all those who supported and worked diligently to make the show an interesting one.

Lea Salonga in Pechanga

Temecula, CA – Lea Salonga is back on tour here in California and we were privileged to be able to see her in Pechanga Resort and Casino last October 2, 2009.

The concert: From the time Lea stepped up on stage and sang her first song, up until the last encore, there was never a dull moment throughout the hour and a half show. Lea prepared a repertoire of her best hits from Broadway musicals, to popular song revivals, a Disney hits and famous tagalong songs. Lea was very interactive with the audience including fans being on stage singing with Lea towards the end of the show. The voice, the band, the lights and sounds was perfect.

Some of the highlights of the concert were her rendition of songs from Les’ Miserables and Miss Saigon. The wedding song “Two Words” was touching and her version of a Filipino classic, “Hahanapin Ko” was flawless. She also sang the original and long version of Mulan’s Reflection which according to her, Disney recalled her to re-record the song and make it a shorter version which Lea did not took it kindly. So whenever there’s a concert, Lea would pull out the original and longer version of the song. Her popular tagalog song, “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal” was sang beautifully. This song was a theme song from her movie with Aga Mulach back in the Philippines and Leas shared of the possibility of doing a movie again with Aga Mulach. Disney’s “A Whole New World” was performed with her fans up on stage. Three male fans sang the male part of the song and Lea together with 2 young women and 2 kids sang the female part of this Disney classic. Lea finished the night with an encore from Annie’s Tomorrow. Truly it was one of the perfect concerts we’ve seen so far and to see Lea Salonga sing live is simply phenomenal. It was like listening to a CD all throughout the show. But the night with Lea isn’t finish for us. Adobo County Magazine was granted a short interview with Lea Salonga after the show. The opportunity of not just being able to see her perform but to meet and greet with her is the best part of the night. Details of the interview will be posted later in this blog.

Overall, the concert was a success. She will continue touring as she performs live in Cerritos for a benefit dinner and show this coming October 18 and another Southern California show in Cabazon, California on November 1st. Lea also expressed her feelings regarding the typhoon tragedy in the Philippines. nicheGrafix and Adobo County would like to acknowledge David Belenzon, Lea Salonga’s Manager for the opportunity to interview her, Dina and Odie Manignas, Pechanga’s Elroy Best for the warm reception and to all those who worked hard to the show a success. Journey with Arnel Pineda in Oprah and Live in Manila DVD

If you truly admire and support the Filipino artists, then you must never miss this DVD of the Journey with Arnel Pineda Live in Manila. It’s so amazing how this young mad, who struggled in streets of Manila, striving band after band, looking for success, has made his journey into stardom. Arnel Pineda now leads Journey back on top, singing their hits from the past and creating new songs for today’s generation.

Last Monday, October 5th in Oprah, Arnel once again opened his story from when he a little boy, sharing his struggles and how Journey discovered him off YouTube and what he has become playing and singing with the band he never dreamed of being a member and a lead vocalist. He even admitted on Oprah that the fact that he is a guest in her show is still unbelievable. Oprah admired Arnel while Journey opened the show with their hit song, “Don’t Stop Believing” and was more than amazed when they ended the show with “Faithfully”. Oprah admitted of having goose bumps while Arnel was singing.

Journey’s Manila concert was packed with 25,000 fans and is now available in DVD at all Walmart stores for a low price of $10.00. I’m pretty sure that those of you wanting to get a pirated copy for free will really look cheap and not being able to afford to purchase one and yet can pay for the internet for those who wants to download a free pirated copy off some file sharing program or have someone rip it and burn it for you instead of buying the real deal for an affordable price.

The concert DVD comes in two CD’s which contains new and classic hits from Journey. Though the concert was held in Manila, very present in the audience are some foreign fans. Arnel mentioned on Oprah that he was really pressured to perform in front of his fellow citizens in the Philippines but pulled it through and all that was expected of him, he was able to give. The concert is long but worth it. Nothing fancy about the concert but it’s simply a rock concert from a well known foreign band with a Filipino lead vocalist.

Last January of this year, Arnel Pineda performed with Lani Misalucha in a US concert tour and nicheGrafix and Adobo County Pinoy Lifestyle Magazine had the opportunity to meet Arnel in his Anaheim concert at the Heritage Forum. He has blossomed more since that time and according to some sources, will have some more solo concert this coming 2010. Arnel has also established his AP Foundation here in Orange County as a way of giving back the blessings he gained to the children in the Philippines.

The Greatest Hitmakers in Anaheim

Anaheim, CA - The Greatest Hitmakers are back here in the United States and Orange County was their last stop before heading back to the Philippines.

Marco Sison, Nonoy Zuniga, Rey Valera, Haji Alejandro and Mr. Rico J. Puno performed at the Heritage Forum in front of sold out crowd. Fans started to gather in front of the venue as early as 5:00PM and doors opened at 6:30PM with some fans still waiting in line at the box office buying tickets for the show.

The concert started at 7:30PM with the 5 hitmakers appearing on stage. At the start of the show, they already made jokes amongst themselves headed by the funny and crazy Rico Puno in what is expected to be a great and fantastic show for everyone filled with memorable songs and hilarious jokes.

Marco Sison started the solo act for the Hitmakers singing his trademark song, Si Aida, O Si Lorna, O Si Fe. Marco Sison's natural voice still wows the fans as he graced along spectators giving them the chance to hug and take pictures with him.

Nonoy Zuniga, the hitmaker with a deep voice followed Marco and sang hit song after another bringing you down to memory lane...a blast from the past. Mellow voiced Rey Valera was next in line to once again entertain the audience with his classic tagalog songs. He sang almost all his famous songs and impressed the audience well enough for the fans to shout "more, more, more" just as he was about to introduce Haji. He thanked the audience by granting their wish by singing another song.

Haji, the good looking singer with the handsome voice looked younger than ever as he performed in front of the sold out crowd. He sang his favorite classics from the 70's to the 80's including the hit "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika", a tribute song to Filipino singers.

The night will not be complete with out the husky voiced Rico J. Puno who is considered the leader of the Hitmakers when it comes to age, women and jokes. The singer during his first song made rounds at the Forum hugging women of all ages as fans took advantage of the situation to pose with him for photos. Before Rico was introduced, Haji informed the audience of his plans to run for congress in the city of Makati in the Philippines. Rico confirmed his aspirations to serve the city and run for congress. Rico J was a former councilor of Makati.

Overall, the night was filled with memorable songs, silly and green jokes and a great concert to unwind after a busy week. It was a concert worth seeing and for Filipinos who grew up listening to their music, it was great to hear those songs again. All five Hitmakers were brilliant with their individual act and their group performance as well. We hope to see them again next year and even if Rico J becomes a congressman, I still hope that he will be there next year.

Kevyn Lettau at the Quail Garden

Jazz singer Kevyn Lettau, famous from her 90's smooth jazz hit, "Sunlight" performed in Encinitas, California at the Quail Botanical Gardens, just 20 minutes north of San Diego. Kevyn performed with guitarist, Peter Sprague and Gunnar Biggs on bass.

The trio performed from their current CD, "What Is Enough" and most notable were the songs, "Sunlight (Acoustic version) and "Waters of March". Kevyn also played percussion instruments at the concert.

Before the concert, nicheGrafix and Adobo County Pinoy Lifestyle Magazine sat with Kevyn Lettau at the beautiful botanical garden for a short interview. Back in the Philippines, Kevyn has performed several times in the past including early this year. The jazz singer enjoys coming to the Philippines because of the warm reception the fans gives her everytime she performs. Up to date, Kevyn still receives emails from there and that she enjoys how much Filipinos love to sing. Ms. Lettau shared her childhood, musical beginnings and influences with Ms. Dee. Kevyn also enjoys music from Filipino artists and one of those mentioned is Gary Valenciano. Kevyn was a bit excited knowing that Gary V will be coming to California for the "As 1" concert with Martin Nievera and wishes to be able to see his concert. She also shared her recent move from Los Angeles to San Diego 3 months ago and how she is adjusting to her new place.

During the concert, Kevyn humbly dedicated the song "Sunlight" to Ms. Dee and shared with the audience how popular this song was in the Philippines. Kevyn became well known with the song and ended up doing some tv commercials and concert tours in Manila.

Even after so many years of performing, Kevyn has maintained her cool voice. As the trio played on that Thursday afternoon, it was so relaxing hearing the guitar, the bass and her voice while enjoying the green background of the trees, the flowers and the waterfalls behind it.

Before the concert started, Kevyn gave Ms. Dee a personally signed copy of her latest CD with Peter Sprague. Their concert is one of many programs that the Quail Botanical Gardens of Encinitas are producing every summer as a treat to members and as a way of inviting people to become a member of the Garden. nicheGrafix and Adobo had a short tour of the place which is filled with different plants, trees and flowers that grows from various places in the United States and some selected countries around the world. Because of the greens that surrounded the place, you can feel the fresh air around you and the coolness of the weather in the area. We would like to thank Kevyn Lettau for sharing her time with us.

The Greatest Hits of the 80’s in Anaheim
Randy Santiago, Louie Heredia, Raymond Lauchengco And Gino Padilla revives the 80’s

Anaheim, CA – The Men of the 80’s did what they were supposed to do: bring back the golden years of the 80’s by singing the hits of the 80’s. Last, August 22, 2009, at the Heritage Forum, the songs that we loved in the 80’s, both local and foreign songs were revived by Randy Santiago, Louie Heredia, Raymond Lauchengco and Gino Padilla.

The Men of the 80’s, a group put together by VIVA back in Manila, were back on their second year in California after a successful concert last year in Pala Casino. The group arrived in Los Angeles after a doing well with their Calgary, Toronto and Texas tour.

The gates opened at 7:30PM and the long line of fans made their way inside the venue. After two front acts, the group headed their way to the stage and opened the show. The group sang as a whole and took turns entertaining the fans with their hits. Louie Heredia sang his famous hits including (Can Find No) Reason. Raymond Lauchengco opened his act with his very first recording, I Need You Back. Gino Padilla sang Gusto Kita and his hit duet Let the Love Begin. Randy Santiago performed his 80’s hit, Babaero. The group went around the audience singing and dancing as the spectators took their chance to take photos and swarmed around them to get a kiss and a hug. As they take turns, the video wall showed a collection of their photos and videos from the 80’s and during their promotion of their concert in the Philippines. Interestingly, Louie showed a video during a Wowowee show where they promoted and as he enters the stage, he slipped and fell down on live TV with millions tuned in to the popular noontime show. Louie also featured his mastery of a famous Filipino dish called Paella. He talked about his being a chef and how he makes business with this delicacy back in the Philippines. Gino showed his first TV commercial which was filmed in LA where he partnered with Tina Turner in a Pepsi advertisement. Raymond Lauchengco, famous for being in the original cast of Bagets together with Aga Mulach, William Martinez, Herbert Bautista and JC Bonin, sang the love theme of the famous 80’s movie. Randy or “Shades” did his antics on stage and interacted with the fans as pictures from his 80’s bands, gigs and magazine covers were flashed on the video wall.

As the show progressed, the colors and memories of the 80’s were revived more as the group impersonated and performed international artists during that decade. Louie Heredia dressed up as Boy George and the Culture Club and sang Karma Chameleon. Raymond Lauchengco became Robby Rosa of the famous Menudo, Gino Padilla transformed into the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and Randy became the glamorous Prince. The men of the 80’s continued to entertain fans by reviving the theme songs of popular movies in the 80’s such as Zapped, Tootsie and Manequin.

Towards the end of the show, the audiences were treated not only to a concert, but the Heritage Forum became a party scene as Randy, Louie, Raymond and Gino started to sing the greatest hits of the 80’s. Fans stood up, left their chairs and started to come down the stage and danced to their favorite songs: Gold, Just Can’t Get Enough, Jump, Just Got Lucky, Build Me Up Buttercup and more. Both regular spectators and a famous personalities watching became united as they danced to 80’s which looked like Rumors or Faces disco back in Makati, Philippines. Overall, the concert was spectacular, colorful and very reminiscent of the generation we called the 80’s. The four performed very well and we expect them to be back on tour for the third year very soon.

Well known faces were present at the show including Janelle So of Kababayan LA, Jackie Regala of KATZ Entertainment, Dee Barrameda of nicheGrafix, Gimmickcity’s Giovi Zamora and Gandi Villareal of Gandi Skin Care. Also there were media people: Jush Andowitt of GMA Pinoy, FilAM Nation’s Manny Legaspi, Lou Sabas, and Eugene Supnet. The show was produced by: Ernan Ebreo of EE Entertainment, Joel Macaspac of TEN (The Entertainment Network), Rongi Enterprise, Inc’s Roni Collantes and Anabelle Abesamis of AA Entertainment.

After the show, the group headed to Bamboo Bistro in West Covina for an after-party. nicheGrafix and Adobo County had a post show informal interview with the men of the 80’s. The group was on tour since July 29th and can’t wait to come home to the Philippines the following day. The group received individual copies of Adobo County Pinoy Lifestyle Magazine: 80’s issue before the show that featured them during the press conference at Max’s Restaurant at Puente Hill’s Mall.

City of Industry, CA - The Men of the 80's are back in California. Randy Santiago, Louie Heredia, Raymond Lauchengco and Gino Padilla were at the press conference for their upcoming show at the Heritage Forum in Anaheim this coming August 22nd, 2009 at 7PM. The press con was held at Max's Restaurant in Puente Hills Mall and was attended by the press and sponsors of the show including nicheGrafix and Adobo County Pinoy Lifestyle Magazine.

The four were interviewed and photographed by notable press people and photographers, Eugene Sapne, Lou Sabas Giovi Zamora, Liza Dino, Ditas Pahl, Albert Vargas and Ken Tadena after a dinner at the patio. The press con was hosted by producers' EE Entertainment, TEN and Rongi Entertainment. The group arrived in LA after a successful tour in Calgary and Toronto, Canada and Texas. California is their last show before heading back to the Philippines.

Louie Heredia was known in the eighties with his hit songs such as "Can Find No Reason" and "Wait". Randy Santiago, brother of director/actor Rowell Santiago and Raymart Santiago is known for his famous songs "Babaero" and "Hindi Magbabago". Gino Padilla made himself known in the 80's with "Closer You and I", "Gusto Kita" and "Let the Love Begin". Who wouldn't forget the original "Bagets" member Raymond Lauchengco who sang "Farewell" and "So It's You". The Men of the 80's will perform their hits this coming Saturday in Orange County.

Anaheim, CA - Teri Onor and Gladys Guevarra performed at the Heritage Forum last Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Orange County together with Arnel Ignacio and a special appearance of Superstar, Ms. Nora Aunor.

Arnel appeared first on stage followed by Teri and Gladys. The trio's stand up comic made the audience laugh that night and the three performers also showed their singing ability that made the show more entertaining. Towards the end of the show, the three introduced the one and only Superstar, Ms. Nora Aunor. The fans took the chance to take pictures and gave hugs to the veteran singer/actress. The show was directed by another veteran, Bert de Leon, who continues to direct Eat Bulaga, the longest running noontime show in the Philippines and is currently seen here in California via GMA Pinoy TV.

The night before the concert, the trio performed in Santa Maria at the Ethel Pope Auditorium together with April Boy Regino, and after their Anaheim show, they will be heading to San Francisco for their last show before heading back to the Philippines.

Si Ate Guy at si Chuchay was produced by EE Entertainment and TEN (The Entertainment Network). Gladys Guevara and now vice-Mayor Teri Onor of Bataan were former co-hosts of Eat Bulaga. Nora Aunor is also set to reunite with Master Showman German Moreno for a Superstar tour.

Singers/Comediennes arrived tonight in Southern California for a series of shows. Gladys Guevarra and Teri Onor, former Eat Bulaga hosts together with Arnel Ignacio stopped by Musikahan in Bellflower after arriving at LAX tonight.

nicheGrafix had a chance to meet and eat with them at the Karaoke bar. Also at Musikahan were producers' Ernan Ebreo of EE Entertainment, Joel Macaspac of The Entertainment, Ron Collantes of Rongi Entertainment and Anabelle Abesames of AA Entertainment. The group will be heading to Santa Maria for a concert with Idol, April Boy this Friday, August 7 and will be back in Orange County for a concert at the Heritage Forum in Anaheim. The producers will also re-schedule the Pala Casino concert and will be determined this week.

Debugging at Big Bear, California

Big Bear, CA - After many days of hard work, long hours and sleepless nights, the nicheGrafix family finally decided to go up to Big Bear for a fresh air and a tour of the city. Travelling along the zigzag road, we slowly went up the mountains up to 7,000 ft. high reaching the lake in less than two hours from Orange County. Regular routes were closed due to a parade of "miners and cowboys". It would have been nice to cover the event and take pictures but we decided it was time to relax, debug and make this trip a family one instead of business. The re-routing of roads took us deeper into town and saw some nice and expensive houses in the village. Because most the restaurants were blocked by the parade, we ended up eating at Sizzler, a common restaurant in Southern California. Imagine going up to Big Bear and eat at Sizzler which can be found a couple of miles away from our home in Orange County.

After eating, opposite the restaurant is family of bears carved from wood and the family had a chance to take some photos. Some of the houses we've seen have wooden bears right in front of their homes or porches so I guess they may have bought it from there. We went back to Big Bear Blvd. and were happy that the parade was over and the road was open to traffic. We went to Pine Knot Landing and bought ourselves tickets to Miss Liberty Tour Boat. With Big Bear out of snow for the summer, the next best thing is to tour the lake.

We boarded the ship and sailed along the lake as we look at million dollar homes, some of which are owned by famous people or loved ones of famous people. As we sail, the history of Big Bear is narrated by one of the staff. The Miss Liberty boat has two levels, an open deck above and the air conditioned level below where restrooms are located and a snack bar as well. The hour and a half trip was enjoyable and is a good way of debugging your mind with work stuff and a perfect getaway from the city. Also seen during the tour is Boulder Bay where big rocks are seen along the bay and up the mountain. One of six solar observatories can be viewed on the way back and the only log cabin left in the city is actually the ticket booth for Miss Liberty as explained by the narrator. After the boat tour, we finally went to the Village, a shopping district in downtown Big Bear. From there, just before it gets dark, we decided to travel back to Orange County and get ready for another busy week. It was a trip worth the travel and you don't have to spent too much to get a fresh air away from the city. We can't wait to be back in winter.

Grill of the Orient Grand Opening

Anaheim, CA - Grill of the Orient or GOTO, a new Filipino gathering place for good food and Karaoke formally opened last night along West Ball Road in Anaheim. The place was visited by mostly Filipinos, young and old, looking for entertainment and good tasting Filipino food.

The grand opening featured a short comic performance by veteran comedienne Bernardo Bernardo. "Idol" April Boy sang few of his famous classics while giving away his shirts and caps to GOTO visitors. Concert producer Ernan Ebreo (EE Entertainment) celebrated his birthday that opening night and with him are his friends and co-producers Joel Macaspac of TEN (The Entertainment Netowrk) and Roni Collantes of Rongi Entertainment. The trios latest promotion is the Men of the 80's with Randy Santiago, Raymond Lauchengco, Gino Padilla and Luoie Heredia live in Anaheim this coming August 22, 2009.

Also present at the opening is the one and only veteran director, Bert de Leon. Bert has been directing the top rated noontime show Eat Bulaga since day 1, 30 years ago and is here to direct the upcoming show "Ate Guy at si Chuchay" which will be held at the Heritage in Anaheim.

It was a privelege having to chat with the famous director of the noontime show we all grew up with.

Grill of the Orient is the newest spot for Filipinos in Orange County. It offers Filipino dishes like Crispy Pats, Sisig, Papaitan and more plus a Karaoke for those who love to sing and will soon be having stand up comedy shows.

Chokwang at Morongo Casino

Sold Out Chokwang!

The scorching heat of 104° outside the desert didn't beat the sizzling entertainment of Chokoleit, Pokwang and singer Yeng Constantino.

The night started with the opening act of the three entertainers followed series of songs from Yeng Constantino. The rock youngster showcased her singing, one of which she sang a medley of Eraserheads' hits. She also said about being more comfortable on stage and being more of herself in terms of clothing compared to when she appears on ASAP '09 in the Philippines.

Chokoleit appeared second and started to heat up the show with his spectacular stand-up show. He played around with "green" jokes and fooled around with a male spectator who was invited up on stage. His skit on the Miss Universe brought the house down and was a perfect fit for audiences who were really looking to laugh that night.

Performing last but not the least is Pokwang, a comedienne known for immitating Aling Dionisia, Manny Pacquiao's mother and Annabelle Rama. Pokwang shared her past experiences in life both in the Philippines and abroad and turning it into laughter. Pokwang and Chokoleit also shared their singing abilities during the show.

Chokwang was produced by KATZ Entertainment headed by Ms. Jackie Regala and Gerry Katigbak. Congratulations for a successful show!

Gimmickcity Finally Revealed!

Gimmickcity finally launched last July 18, 2009 in Glendale, CA by throwing a "White" Party to invited guests. Not only was it a launching party but a celebration of Gandi Villareal's 16th anniversary.

Gimmmickcity is membered by Giovi Zamora, Gandi Villareal, Ditas Pahl and Liza Dino. The concept of this project is to go around Los Angeles and other cities in Southern California and catch the latest craze in food, fashion, places, finance and realty....it's really about anything and everything. Their 30 minute preview of their first episode includes the Ruffa Gutierrez birthday bash at the CBS Studios in Los Angeles; VuQo goes ROYALE in downtown LA and their trip to Cerritos at the O Bar.

The party was filled with glamour and glitz and good food and bottomless VuQo vodka! The night also celebrated the birthday of Filipino fashion designer Lou Razon that featured Shirley Gorospe in a fashion show during the party.

An Evening with Tears for Fears

Costa Mesa, CA - July 17, 2009: Tears for Fears are back in Orange County, California after 2 years. The duo filled the Pacific Amphitheatre with a sold out crowd of close to 9,000 people with hundreds more waiting outside hoping for a chance to get some tickets at the box office. The show started promptly at 8:00PM with an instrumental track called Listen. Minutes before the song ended, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith entered the stage as fans welcomed the duo. They started the show with Everybody Wants to Rule the World, the familiar 1985 chart-topper that made them popular. Because the show started promptly as stated on the tickets, late comers missed the opening song of the night. It was followed by Secret World from their 2004 reunion album Everybody loves a Happy Ending. Then they platyed another big hit Sowing the Seeds of Love from their last album together before the duo split up in 1990, then followed by Call Me Mellow. Classic tracks like Mad World and Memories Fade were played and it’s been awhile that Tears for Fears haven’t played the original version of Mad World. Two years ago, Gary Jules performed his mellow version during his front act with the band and Curt sang the Night of the Prom’s version of Mad World. This time around the familiar sampled beat from the eighties started playing as the crowd stood up and cheered.

Midway through the concert, Tears for Fears paid tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. They rendered their own alternative version of Billie Jean. It was slow, classy and original and will definitely be a big hit if given the chance to be recorded and released. The song was cheered and the crowd was appreciative of their rendition and was the highlight of the concert. This song was added to the set list two concerts ago during their Northern California gig. Curt also sang from his latest solo album Halfway, Pleased called Seven of Sundays and Roland sang a duet with their back up singer, Michael Wainwright which was pretty good for a male singer to sing the female part of the song Woman in Chains.

As usual, people were standing, dancing and singing when they played Floating Down The River, Pale Shelter, Break it Down Again and Head Over Heels. Due to the venue’s curfew restrictions, Tears for Fears had to speed up their set list and finish the show at exactly 9:30PM. The group played Shout as their final song with some kids gathered around one microphone up the stage to sing the chorus. The concert was short but nonetheless fabulous and awesome.

Adobo County would like to thank Pacific Amphitheatre for the opportunity to cover the concert for our magazine. We were one of the photographers of the show and a reviewer as well. The Tears for Fears show was one of the many concert line ups of the OC Fair which is held yearly at the OC Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa every July.
